The Godfather was about how the Corleones -trying to keep the family together- lose each other in the process. They have to kill off characters, it’s The Godfather- a mob/mafia family. The last of us isn’t that. It’s not necessary to kill off main characters, but it’s not my game so🤷🏻♀️
comparing this thing to the Godfather trilogy is a bad choice; the godfather trilogy is actually good. With this, it feels like a new writer forced his way in to make this franchise into his edgy fanfiction.

And instead of maybe having Joel kidnapped instead, Tommy could've been kidnapped as bait to lure Joel in. When you're in complete control of a story and game and outcome, I don't understand how you can make the decision to kill off half the world you spent and entire game building in the first hour or two of the sequel.

he said it for a reason - the writer wanted to kill him off/humiliate him so Joel acted out of character and did something he'd never do. It's like what happened with Luke in the Last Jedi.
